According to General Wheeler(The War Child) they were both great successes..I would suggest the one in 63 was less of a disaster then the one in 64. My gosh in 64 he took in maybe 4,500 troopers and scampered back across the Tennessee with maybe 500-1,000.The balance were not killed or captured they just kindv'e got lost for awhile.

There is no doubt doubt of General Wheeler's courage and devotion to his country.However,I read a quote somewhere about General Hood that most likely could be applied to General Wheeler.

"Too much Lion and not enuff Fox"
