Thanks Alan, but more specific ideas? I have 3 histories of Hickman Co., and there is little mention. A few years ago there was article in the Civil War Times, and "With Blood and Fire" hits on it. Do I need the histories of all the surrounding counties? To be specific about what I am looking for: my GGF was witht he 17th Tenn., was discharged for illness, and went back as a scout with AD McNairy under Cross' Co., all of which his parole and records show. (interesting enough, McNairy signed the parole). I can find no other information (other than TN in the CW's brief summary) on McNairy's group and Cross' company. Cindy
