... I tracked down the church there a couple years ago.. I wanted to see and find out for myself as well. Its now known as "Greenwood Primative Baptist Church". I was told the original building burned down post war. Was reorganized and rebuilt around 1884 as per an engraved corner stone on the building. However the current building appears more like 1954 than 1884. Simple brick structure that doesnt really resemble what most would concider a "Church" in the traditional sence. Cemetery wraps around the building, a anchor chain link fence surrounds the property. Its on a main roadway there but blink and you missed it. I went past it several times not noticing it.. then finally saw a couple grave stones out front on the next pass, and managed to get into the parking lot off a side road. Still didnt know if I was at the right place till I walked up and read the corner stone on the building. Majority of the marked stones present were well post war. I managed to locate an older gentleman that was the reported caretaker of the property. He said when the original building burned all the church records were all lost, including any possible cemetery charts. He stated he had never heard about a confederate being buried in the church yard there. The denomination and the church itself faded out decades ago, and hasnt been active in many years. Think they still were using the building for local civic group meetings and such. I would have liked to have had a stone put in for Huger, So far from home, unmarked but not forgotten.
