Re: Info Found about T. A. Jeffers of the 2nd SC C

In this particular family group I had Lieut William Alfred Mickler (1840-1917) and Corporal Huger J Mickler (1836-1862) that both were amongst the Iron Scouts.

Hugar was killed in an ambush in Dec 1862 near Centerville Va. Based on details mentioned in the book I was able to locate the small church yard he was reportedly buried in. Unfortunately not the grave itself that remains unmarked. The original church later burned down and rebuilt, but any records that could have given further clues had been lost. The church is no longer active for some time so very few around that knows much of anything of its history. I found the grave yard but not the actual grave.

William continued on, was wounded at Brandy Station, but survived. Post war settled in Fla.

Both of these were pards with the author of "Autobiography of Arab", and mentioned frequently.

These two also had another older brother Captain John H Mickler, that served in the 11th SC. Another interesting and daring charactor. Apparently an engineer of some sorts, frequently being detached to put mines into various creeks and waterways around SC to prevent US naval passage, and scouting via small boats to the many little islands around the area. Once his Brigade was sent to Va.. He was detailed as part of the Confederate counter-mine activities at what became the Petersburg-Crater.
