Interesting, many of the laws of Mississippi and Alabama, still by 1860, were from the original Mississippi Territorial Laws based on the earlier Northwest Territory Laws. They seemed to be a bit more liberal in relation to race-- except in cases where the transplanted Carolina and Virginia power seekers got the laws changed.
