I Thought This Was Settled...but lookee here.
In Response To: So many differences ()

Awhile back we had found the Louisiana laws prior to 1820 stated that militia duty for ALL free men and it was later changed. Here it was changed BACK to the original law sometime after 1834.

The Laws of Louisiana 1841.

An Act for the organization and discipline of the Militia of the State of Louisiana approved March 8 1834 1 Sec I That the militia of the State of Louisiana shall be composed of all free white males residing in the State and who have resided there two months and are eighteen years of age and not yet forty five and who are not exempt under the laws of the United States or under the provisions of this law Provided however that no such person who is not a citizen of the United States shall be compelled to serve .

3 Sec III That the militia of the State shall be divided into two classes all those eighteen years of age and not yet thirty shall be the first class all the rest shall be the second class.
An Act to repeal so much of an act entitled An act for the organization and discipline of the militia of the State of Louisiana approved March eighth one thousand eight hundred and thirty four as divides the militia of the State into two classes approved March 19 1835.

And I kept reading and found this....

104 Sec I That so much of the law approved on the eighth of March one thousand eight hundred and thirty four for the organization and discipline of the militia creating two classes be and the same is hereby repealed as regards the several classes and that ALL males of the age of eighteen years and those who have not arrived to the age of forty five years and who shall have resided in the State of Louisiana for two months shall be liable to perform militia duty according to previous laws
