Re: Salathiel Smith Co. H 3rd Miss. Inf.

Thanks, George.
What appeared to be a simple project to find out about this soldier for a community event about one of only two CSA Veterans buried in our City Cemetery, has turned into a great story. His involvement with the building of Jeff Davis' final home at Beauvoir and the fact that he died while a resident there make this a very special record.I believe the february 1865 notes do indicate that he was with the train on its way to NC. The Brigade had returned to Miss. after the battles at Franklin and Nashville in January and departed for NC in February. I believe he made it since the Brigade was involved in the action at Bentonville, NC in March and I presume the train had arrived by then. Would love to find his name on a surrender roster somewhere.
