Thanks for pointing that out, Tom. His record can be rather confusing as he shows up on hospital muster rolls (some of them showing the original designation of his company - Co. D, 1st Middle Tennessee Cavalry, and some showing the later designation - Co. I, 1st Alabama Cavalry) and also on company muster rolls for the 1st Ala. for the same dates (indicating that he is in the hospital.)
The card below shows that the actual transfer to the Invalid Reserve Corps (later renamed the Veterans Reserve Corps) took place Oct. 7, 1864. The card itself is from a muster-out roll dated July 19, 1865, although he had died the month before.
