The incorrect information concerning Obadiah Stover appears to come from his service record which can be viewed on Fold3 at https://www.fold3.com/image/272/119303532

On the page I have linked it is stated he was discharged on June 18, 1865. Rather than a discharge from the army as a whole it appears he was discharged from active duty with the 1st Alabama Cav and transferred to the Invalid Reserve Corps as of July 19, 1865.

He was pretty old for field service (58 when he enlisted) and this is confirmed in his record where one of he hospital documents notes the "Nature of Disability - Old Age." A review of his muster rolls confirms he spent nearly all of his enlistment in the hospital.
