Yes, there was a Captain James J. Womack in the 16th Tn. Infantry and he was a cousin to the James Jasper Womack that I am looking for. James Jasper gave his name as Joseph on the 1870 census and he was the one married to Julie Ann. Don't know why he used Joseph for his name.
I think that the J.J. Womack that I am looking for is the one in the `18th Tn. Infantry Company D. They misspelled his name and put "Wammack" This one enlisted at McMinville, Tn and that is where he lived. I am trying to locate his papers.
