Re: James Jasper Womack (J.J. Wammack)

Looks to me like two different men. A James J Womack applied for a Tennessee State Confederate Pension from Warren County stating that he was in the 16th Tennessee Infantry. This man served as Captain of Co. E (formerly Co. H, or Capt. Womack's Company). He is found on the 1860 census, erroneously listed as Joseph Womack, in Putnam County, Tennessee. (Names of wife and children match those of James J Womack found on other records). He married Julia Ann Parker in 1850 in Cannon County, Tennessee. The J J Womack in the 6th Mississippi, was a private in Co. A, The Rankin Rough and Readys. They were mustered into service at Cato, Rankin County, Mississippi, April 27, 1861. A James Womack was enumerated on the 1853 Mississippi State Census - residence, Rankin County.
