James Jasper Womack (J.J. Wammack)

Looking for some information on a soldier named James Jasper Womack, sometimes spelled Wammack. He was in the 6th Ms. Inf. and on his papers they spelled his name Wammack. Does anyone know where this soldier enlisted? He was born in 1828 and died in 1895 in Tn.
His home was in McMinville, Tn and on his papers it states he was in the 6th Inf. Ms. Did some of the men from Tn enlist in the Ms. Regiments?
Thanks for any help on this soldier.
