Re: Elijah J. Reeves - Garland's Batt'n - 6th Miss

Old vets sometimes had a foggy memory. A record exists for E G Reeves in Powers' Regiment Mississippi Cavalry (AKA Powers' MS and LA Regiment of Cavalry) commanded by Col. Frank Powers. The single card indicates that he was a private in Company D and that his residence was Pike County, Mississippi. The card also indicates that he was a part of the army that was surrendered by Lt. Gen. Richard Taylor at Citronelle, AL, (the army was not at Citronelle, that was the place where Gen. Taylor met Gen. Canby), and that he was paroled at Gainesville, AL, 12 May 1865. I could not find anyone named Bates in that regiment.
