The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

Re: james martin 37th miss. inf. co. g

Hugh's research and statements align with the Vicksburg service of Captain John A. Dixon who was my Grear-Great Grandfather and commanded a detachment of the 12th Louisiana at Vicksburg. After signing his parole on 6 July 1863 he went across the Mississippi River and returned home to Winnfield La to await exchange. The next information I have on him is that he was at Bentonville NC commanding General Scott's Brigade. He took some men from the 12th La Infantry with him to North Carolina. I think these men were lucky indeed to have missed the Tennessee Campaign in the fall of 1864.
