Hugh,

I did not mean to imply James Martin "never" went back into service, I simply meant he never returned to the 37th and with the information given there is no way I can determine if he went with another unit. By taking the parole oath, he had a couple of options, he could have joined a Union unit or perhaps with his paper in hand he could have simply sat out the war at home, or he may have joined another Confederate unit. I also believe that Ms Hall mentioned something about his age and health, which I took into consideration, but was not shown in his CSRs. I tried to give Ms Hall a couple of possible scenarios without investing a lot of time researching all of he J/J.A./James Martins and the units in which they served.

If I caused any confusion I offer my apologies.
