There are other Slades from Marion County in the same company as Daniel with the same enlistment date: Absalom was killed at Corinth; J. Slade with no other information on the single card in his record; Samuel whose cards indicate that he "received no bounty" and that he was AWOL since Dec. 15, 1862; William who was listed as sick in the hospital and then AWOL since Sept. 12, 1862.
I assume all of these men were related.
Ebenezer Slade enlisted in Co. I, 38th MS Cavalry in Marion County March 25, 1862 and died in a hospital in Okolona June 7, 1862. In the same company, same unit are the following Slades: George W. (age 20) who was wounded at Harrisburg, MS, spent time in hospitals in Columbus and Holly Springs, employed as a cook at a hospital in Columbus July 22, 1863, and then listed as dead June 19, 1862 in Texas (??????????).
There are also some Slades, including a Hezekiah, who enlisted in the 7th MS Infantry at Bay St. Louis.
Furthermore, Jesse and Samuel Slade served in the 1st New Orleans, which was a Union unit. They more than likely served in a Confederate unit before deserting and joining the 1st like others in this area did. They may very well be the J. and Samuel Slade listed above.
I'm not related to the Slades, that I'm aware of, but I am from the Southern Pearl River/Northern Hancock County area and grew up playing summer softball with some Slades. In addition, I had distant relatives in Co. B, 7th Battalion and Co. I 38th Cavalry
