I'm wondering if anyone is still monitoring this thread, and whether there is any news about the Slades of Mississippi and their participation in the Civil War. Are there any new books out about the Mississippi fighting units? I am a descendent of a long line of Slades. Here are a few notes about my Slade ancestors, in case anyone is trying to untangle them. There were a bunch of Hezekiahs, Samuels and Johns of different generations:

DNA tests have established that the MS Slades are descended from Henry Slade, who was born in 1648 in England and died in Hyde County, NC. There is still an unincorporated community called Sladesville, NC.

Henry's great, great grandson Samuel moved to MS from SC and died in Perry County MS in 1843.

Hezekiah Slade was born to Samuel on 14 Apr 1804, Big Pee Dee River, Cheraw Dist.,S.C.; and died. 1863, Poplarville, Pearl River Co. Ms. This is Daniel Slade's father (see below), and my great, great, great grandfather Slade. I have a photo of an honorary plaque and some memorial markers for several Slade men--these markers are in Lamar County, MS.

DANIEL SLADE was born 16 May 1830 in Marion Co., MS., and died 25 Jun 1889 in MS. Was a Civil war veteran, discharged 1863 due to disease. This is my great, great grandfather Slade.

His brother Ebenezer Slade was born 06 Oct 1833, Marion Co.,MS.; d. 07 Jun 1862, Okalona, Chickasaw Co., MS.; Ebenezer was killed during the Civil War.

I'd love to know what units Daniel and Ebenezer belonged to during the war.
