Re: 40th MS Inf - Iuka
My ancestor James C. Palmer, Company I, 40th Mississippi Infantry was in both the Battle of Iuka and Corinth. His diary is missing the Corinth dates (and several other pages/dates) and I am trying to determine which battles he was involved in. Was the 40th at the Battle of Hatchie's Bridge? My research so far seems to indicate that the Confederate Army as a whole was moving out when this battle happened. I know that he was in Holly Springs shortly after this and they moved out of there 24 October 1862. Any info on the activities of the 40th between 5 Oct. and 24 Oct. would be a great help! Thanks.
