Re: French's Division Hospital - Enterprise

Scott --

On May 28, 1863, General Samuel G. French was ordered to report to Gen. Joseph E. Johnston at Jackson, Miss. Part of his command included two brigades of a division formerly commanded by General McCown in the Army of Tennessee.

After the surrender of Vicksburg, a Confederate parole camp was established at Enterprise MS. The hospital had been known simply as General Hospital earlier. Sometime after General French's division set up camp there during the second half of 1863, the hospital became known as French's Division Hospital.
