This is a long story and I'll try to shorten it. Two years ago I found a lost cemetery, burial dates 1831- 1864 near Austin, Arkansas. There are about 60 graves located, but only five have marked headstones and they were all under ground, which I found by probing. The five are all Saunders or their kinfolks, one is Stephen Saunders died July 7, 1843. He is Milford Henderson Saunders father. I've been researching the Dunaway, Ferguson, and Saunders families for descendants across America that have ties to these early Arkansas pioneers. I'm just now starting to branch out on the Saunders (Sanders) family, and got stuck on Milford. A lady descendant in Missouri gave me the Milford story on the 1866 death, but no one else presents that story. This lady went through her ggrandaughter's things, Milford's daughter's and found a nice period tintype circa 1860 of Milford. He is in period clothes, but not uniformed. She knew nothing of him being in the war. Her story goes like this, Milford H. Sanders had an arrest warrant on him out of Platte County, Missouri and Milford was killed by a local sheriff in or near Farley, Missouri around 1866. This may be the place to start checking records.
