Thanks, Bruce. I've quickly read your very thorough and comprehensive response. I greatly appreciate everything you have shared. I will offer one small correction on one thing that you told me. That is the EMM enrollment. If you look at the card, it is for Jerry FARMER Jones and he is 18 years old. Farmer's father, my 2nd great-grandfather, went by Jerry and the son went by Farmer. Both are named Jeremiah and it is not unusual to find records for either of them where they are identified as Jeremiah. Anyhoo, in 1863, Jeremiah "Jerry" was 53 years old. The EMM enrollment is for Jeremiah's son, Farmer. When I first delved into this family history, I could never keep the two straight.

I will go back now and carefully read your response and make note of dates, names, and other interesting tidbits you've passed along. Thank you, again, for so generously giving of your time and sharing so much about this incident.
