Re: 1862 fatalities from Missouri guerrilla war

Hi, Bruce -

Have just come upon your books on "Guerrilla Warfare in Civil War Missouri." Volume II, 1863" - Chap 13 - specifically the capture of notorious bushwhackers Bill Pulliam and Jerry Jones has me more than a little bit intrigued. I believe Jerry Jones is my 2nd grt-grandfather, Jeremiah M. Jones (his close neighbor was Bill Pulliam). Research has been nothing but a brick wall for Jeremiah for years on end until mention in Tom Rafiner's book, "Caught Between Three Fires" and your book. I've obtained a copy of Jeremiah's claim for reimbursement for property confiscated during Civil War which mentions his being put in KC prison in Dec 1861 (and having his nose shot off!). You mention his capture in June 1863 and being taken to Paola garrison for examination by military commission as reported in a KC newspaper. I've yet to find any source who has that particular newspaper. The Liberty Tribune on June 23 reports the event but does not include names.

Questions for you: Where can I find the KC newspaper? And, do you have any other information on Jerry Jones? I will be more than delighted for any morsel, any tidbit that might lead me to other resources that could help determine his ancestry.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,
Sally Henson
