This is certainly a mystery. The Sixth Division usually covered Pulaski, Phelps, and Camden Counties, while the rest of the VI Division included counties to the north (based on the map on page 23 of "Price's Lieutenants" showing which counties were in which divisions of the MSG). Dent and Taney Counties were part of the 7th Division that included a large number of counties of south-central Missouri. Therefore, wounded and ill southerners you have seen listed as part of Company C, of the V Division at Springfield, were actually part of the 6th and 7th Division, too. About the only suggestion I could make might be that Company C was a small company at Springfield on 10 August for the Battle of Wilson's Creek and southern leaders inserted men from the two other divisions present there to augment the small company. But, this is only conjecture, just a guess. I really don't know. Sorry I could not help you more.
