Marty I appreciate the effort but I can't agree that the Francis Davis in Shanks Regt is the fellow in the 1860 census in Dunklin Co. The members of Shanks/Hays Regt came from the NW corner of the state, a long way from Dunklin County. Further there are 3 entries in the MO SOS files for a (F)rancis M/N Davis of Shelby's and Shanks Brigade made from Reunion records in the Jackson Co area. Given that "our" Capt Davis was reportedly killed I think it unlikely that the two fellows are one and the same. I've found roughly 1400 possibles on name match that I need to cull through It just takes time.
