The Edward you mentioned is probably related, many of the Paces settled in Missouri and Iowa. I have a letter written by Edward M. (killed in Centralia) Pace's older brother, Lt. Col. L C Pace of the 11th Mo. Calvary. shortly after the massacre. He joined in the search for Anderson, he was placed under arrest for not returning to his regiment on time (because of the search).The letter was offered as a complaint under the 34th article of war I will send you a copy if you like. I have started reading the book you suggested, have you read the account of Thomas Goodman, the survivor of the Centralia Massacre? I read the entire story, Mr Goodman also gave testimony for Edward M.'s minor child in the second attempt for her pension.
