That is some interesting information. I think you are correct about box. It sure does make a better report to your superiors when you can drop a few names and ranks.

I work in a factory by day and let me tell you by the end of the work day what happened on a previous shift is no where close as to what really happened.

I appreciate the effort you and Bruce have devoted to my original post. Didn't get all of the answers I was looking for , but I think I'm closer to placing Eades' burial spot. I just assumed with what little I had read that he was in or just outside of Syracuse. I strongly believe now that they were headed southwest staying close but not on the Butterfield Overland trail. It's start was 1858, don't know how well used it was by 1863 or before 1858. I live not far from it and let me tell you it is no walk in the park.

When I was a Boy Scout we hiked the Butterfield Overland Trail from south of Florence to the mass grave near the Battle of Cole Camp 1861 on down to Warsaw. Took a ferry across the river and stopped hiking somewhere southwest of Fairfield. It took us one weekend a month for 4 months to get there. Some pavement,a lot of gravel and some land owners let us hike across their land on the original trail. There were still cabins standing in the woods along the trail at that time and wagon wheel ruts in rock bluffs. Alot of it is under Truman lake today.
