Here's my 2 cents.
I've only seen Preston H. Eades mentioned as a Col. twice. The OR's and in his son's William Horace Eades obit. William Horace the son of Col and Mrs P. H. Eades. I haven't found any reference of him having any military career in KY..
Bruce, while reading your Vol 2 1863 book I came across the account of John T Marshall of Howard Co. in the fall of 1863. I wonder if John was related of James Marshall and William N Marshall of Howard Co?
Preston's first wife Hulda Eades dies around 1851 I'm speculating in childbirth.
Preston then marries Lenora last name ? Preston and Lenora have I think 5 children 1 of them is Jefferson Davis (Jeffie a girl) Eades in 1862.
Lenora moves to Howard Co after Preston's death. She marries James Marshall of Howard Co. 1865.
Laura Eades one of Preston's daughters marries William N Marshall of Howard Co in 1873. Has a large wooded land holding and owned “Boone Lick”s”. I'm thinking this is where the recruiting camp was hiding very deep in the woods in 1863.
Laura dies in 1879. William then marries Laura's younger sister Jeffie.
Preston's farm is north of I -70. For you that are old enough to remember the giant black and gold cowboy holding some tires standing on the north side of I-70 west of Boonville. Not far from where the LaMine runs in to the Mo river. Most likely more querrilla recruiting ground.
