To Brigadier -General Fisk, St. Louis, Mo. From G.A. Holloway, Assistant Adjutant-General. Lieutenant -General Denny telegraphs that the committee that bushwhacked yourself, Colonel Green, Captain Glaze, and others near Fayette last summer are now near Odin, Ill. Their names are Lindsley Payton and two sons, Dick Jackson, Brag, and Cap. Joe Gooch, all celebrated as bushwhackers. A prisoner in our hands gives the information. He will be in Major DeBolt's hands tonight. Col. Green will go to Illinois if needed. Cannot they be best secured through St. Louis detectives: What steps shall we take? Glasgow, Dec. 20, 1864. I learn that Lindsley Payton and two sons, Jackson, Bragg and Gooch, noted bushwhackers of Missouri are in Ill., near Odin. Cap. Quinn of Roanoke will be at Macon tonight with a man named Green, arrested by my orders, who gives the information. Wuinn is not a suitable man to send to Ill. after these bushwhackers and I hope you will stop him at Macon and arrange the matter with the authorities in Ill. He is a good fighter but a poor spy. Gooch and Brag, you will remember , are the parties who were engaged in bushwhacking Col. Green and Capt. Glaze. I hope you will succeed in the capture of these outlaws. Col. Green says he is ready to start to Ill after them if he can be of any service. A.F. Denny. Lt.Col.

Glasgow, Apr. 3, 1865: to Gen. C.B. Fisk: I learn that Capt. Joseph Gooch, Lt. Bragg, Holtzclaw, Lindsey Payton, Reuben Payton, and Kit Peyton, all guerrillas from Howard County are at or near Nebraska City. Gooch's wife went up a few days since. They have some stock at Prairie Home, near there. It is believed they are preparing to cross the Plains. A.F. Denny, Lt. Col.

St. Louis, MO., Apr 7, 1965, 2 p.m. Maj. H. Heath, District Provost-Marshal, Leavenworth: Holtzclaw, Gooch, Bragg, and three Peytons, Missouri guerrillas of the worst stamp, are at the Prairie House, near Nebraska City. Take prompt measures to secure them. J.H. Baker.

Joseph Gooch (b1837) married Sarah Elizabeth Bragg in 1856 in Linn Co MO. He is found in Logan Twsp Linn Co, MO in the 1850, 60, 70 census lists.
