Thanks for pointing that out - indeed that's a good piece as well. There are several spotty references in the Quincy papers to Tom Rose et al. The best perhaps is this one - Quincy Daily Herald - June 3rd page 3. it gets really exciting with the full-blown description of the mob storming the jail and taking Tom Rose out to hang him. Barnisconi turned what I'd call "states evidence" on all of them - posse was organized and a shootout occurred north of Quincy and in the crossfire, Thomas Trimble was killed. That murder was pinned on Tom Rose. I have no idea what the gang of perhaps a 8-12 men (and possibly lady supporters) were doing up and down the area but folks in Quincy didn't like it and socked it to them all good. One young man was going to be sentenced to death, Thomas Wilson, but was felt sorry for and at the last minute, not killed. There's a lengthy confession that he gave to George King (newspaper editor and local minister). Tom's given most of the credit/blame in that confession as well. He accepted his portion of blame prior to being hung as well - the article of June 3 includes a brief interview with him. Even a priest was summoned so I guess there was a tad bit of decorum in all the chaos. There'd have been more trouble but Prentiss stepped in and called an end to the madness of the evening. I've not been able to track down what happened with Barnisconi after he served his time (if he served it at all).
