Correcting a grave marker

A couple of years ago I posted here seeking info on possible burial sites for my husband's g-g-grandfather who died in Gratiot Street Prison in 1863. He was sent there from Callaway County as a civilian for violating his loyalty oath after his return from Confederate service. He is mentioned on p. 83 of Carolyn Bartels book "The Forgotten Men." With the help of a cousin we have located him at Jefferson Barracks. Unfortunately he is buried under a misspelled name and his marker shows him as Civilian. His name was Geo. A. DARNE. His marker and the grave locator database show him as Geo. A. DAME. The death date matches the handwritten records from the prison and I have a copy of his CSR documenting his service, as well as a copy of his prison "intake" interview. An employee in the cemetery office indicated that we would have to make an appointment with the cemetery director/administrator to see about changing the marker and the database, but said that they usually don't replace "historical markers." In this case, the history is WRONG. Has anyone on this board attempted to have such a correction made? I'm looking for any tips that might be helpful in honoring his service and righting a wrong. Thanks!
