routes used by union / confederate forces 1863
In Response To: Re: General j.j. alfred mouton ()

on 10.8 and 10.11. 1863 Gen. Taylor received two messages from Catholic Priest Father Raymond (Opelousas) and Father Jean Arthur Poyette (Abbeville)n concerning Union Troop movement. Raymond advised Taylor of the Union forces for the up coming battle of Bayou Bourbeau and Poyette advised Taylor of a 2000 man mounted force escortin pontoons headein West on the Abbeville - New Iberia Road (La14). Taylor advises Gen. Magruder that this force is heading towards Texas intending to cross the Vermilion / Mermentau Rivers at their lowest stages and could he assist in this matter ? I believe the Union forces make it as far as the Eastern side of Mermentau but are recalled by Gen. Banks because they lost the element of surprise. Is the Gulf Coast Road La. 82 today ? Battle of Bourbeau...Thomas Green attacks from Bellevue Road...Is that La. 182 today ?
