Re: Pvt Guidry Memorial Service and 2d La Cav

Charles

I have scanned through the Confederate Service Record (CSR) for several members of Co. A of the 2nd LA Cavalry and have found at least seven (7) men who enlisted at Vacherie or Camp Vacherie in October. They were Antoine Guidry, Jules Guidry, Ovide Guidry, Dalas Hayes, Isaac Hayes, Lewis Hayes, M R Hayes, and G W Merrill. In every case it iss reasonably clear that the place is Cmp Vacherie and not Vachene.

In these cards the "i" is always dotted, but the "ri" could be read as an "n."It is very clearly Vacherie and not Vachene. There is Vacherie,LA in St James Parish, below Donaldsonville on the Miss. River. Maybe it was near there.

Hope this helps

Don
