Thomas P. Johnson---Lexington Battalion

Looking for any information on Thomas P. [Payne?] Johnson, a major in the "Lexington Battalion" on the eve of the war. Johnson was a nephew of George Washington Johnson, the first Confederate governor of Kentucky. Online sources provide conflicting information as to TP's DOD. Perrin (History of Bourbon etc.) indicates he died in Georgetown on April 12, 1862, though a WorldConnect posting provides an uncited date of March 10, 1861. No indication of whether he served in the war or not (he was a farmer like his uncle), or what he died of. Supposedly attended the "Military Institute," which I presume to be the one in Lyndon, Jefferson County. Went to CA during the gold rush and briefly served as a sheriff in San Francisco in the early 1850s.
