The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

More Posting Please

I have resided in Georgia for most of my life except for a stint in the U.S. Navy for 5 years 1946-1951.

I monitor The Civil War News & Views site on a daily basis and have gained much knowledge concerning the Civil War.

I also monitor the Georgia in the Civil War Message Board on a daily basis. However, there is not a average of more than one or two postings per month on the Georgia Board. Where are the Georgian's who have an interest and documents concerning the Civil War in this state??

Georgia has a rich history involving the Civil War. For instance. Yankee's General Sherman's march through Georgia from Atlanta to Savannah Georgia which covered about a sixty mile wide swath of Georgia real estate.

Sherman's troops "lived off the land", burning and destroying homes, draft animals, milk cows, hogs, and canned food that nonn-combatants (women & children) depended on for their daily food rations.

Georgia also furnished many volunteer soldiers for the Confederate Army.

My mother's family, the Vandivers, had three sons which volunteered for the Confederate Army, one died in a Richmond hospital, and is buried in a unknown hero's grave that is known only to God.

Surely there are individuals who have knowledge of Confederate soldiers from Georgia which have interesting stories.

Remember that our present generation is likely the last generation who have a personal interest in the Civil War. After this generation passes, there with likely be very few persons with access to stores and documents from their relatives.

Please help preserve the legacy earned with the shed blood by our forefathers, and post some Civil War Documents on this board.
