Hello, Herb.

When Georgia's legislature was in session last year (2016) I seem to recall there was an effort to name a bridge over Lake Lanier in honor of General Longstreet. We know where that idea went. A proposal to protect the carving on Stone Mountain went nowhere as well. Governor Deal, a long-time Gainesville resident and a descendant of two Confederate great-grandfathers, later struck Lee's Birthday and Confederate Memorial Day from the state's calendar. Both are now nameless state holidays. Don't look for Deal's successor to restore the names.

As for doing programs in our local schools, some may permit it, but I suspect most would pass on the opportunity. Telling the truth about our Confederate ancestors does not fit the politically correct agenda that permeates our society. Somebody may get "offended" and have a sudden need for some safe space to recover and heal.

I know at least 2 new Georgia regimental histories will be published this year; one on the 38th Georgia and the other on the Troup Artillery of Athens. I'm doing what I can and hope to put out a couple more books myself this year.

Best Regards,
