Assuming Charles C. Vandiver did die in Richmond, he's likely among the many unknown
buried there at Hollywood or Oakwood cemetery. If he was a resident of Jackson County,
Georgia, there may be mention of his death in court records, especially if he owned any
property. As you indicated his service record abruptly ends with him listed as "sick".
