Re: Kingston, GA surrender, May 12-20, 1865

Mr. Hodge, A Maurice Thompson of the North Georgia Scouts was supposedly paroled on May 12, 1865 at Kingston. He had been under the command of Major Tom Polk Edmondson, until he was fatally wounded in a skirmish at the Coosawattee River near Spring Place. ( April 3, 1865) Major Edmondson had been with Gen. Wheeler in late summer 1864 on raids into Tennessee. Gen. Wheeler on his return to Georgia decided to leave Edmondson and his company in Murray County to break up rail lines and help restore law and order in North Georgia. After his death a Captain Rogers took command, and was also paroled on May 12.
The spring edition of Georgia Backroads Magazine has a great article on Tom Polk Edmondson, if you can find a copy it is well worth the time to read. If you cannot find a copy let me know and I will scan the pages and email them to you. Hope this helps a little.
