The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Kingston, GA surrender, May 12-20, 1865

Mr. Mitchell,

Absolutely! I haven't had a lot of response to the project.

No list is currently in existence to even give an indication of the men who surrendered at Kingston. Since this initial message post, I went to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and went through the files that may have contained a potential list; none exists. The alternative is to glean individual names as we find them and research each person's service records and/or pension file and create the list. This takes time, resources, energy, multiple states.

Admittedly, a lot has happened in my life since 2011 but I still believe the project must be go on because, if not, a huge portion of North Georgia's history WILL BE lost. I think it would be a great Master's or PhD project for someone! If I could get funding for it, I would force it to go forward. The issue is not how to do it but to find a Sugar Daddy or Sugar Momma to fund it! Time = Resources = People.

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can correspond with me at rebel1863@hotmail.com.
