It's been a while, but I'm still here, still searching for flags and doing my stories. I'm currently working on a historical-fiction book following a mess from the 21st Ohio at Chickamauga. In my research I found that the 21st clashed with the 44th Mississippi during their stand at Snodgrass Hill on 20 September 1863, but need help. Our research cannot accurate describe their uniforms and their flag. We have found that most men at that time may have worn Columbus Depot jackets as they were in Northern Georgia and a direct link to that depot. A key part of the story have the two clashing and a Confederate named Private Martin Fox, Company L, 44th Mississippi is wounded and captured. This man is a real life soldier, but his service, his wound, is still a mystery as we can't find any definitive info outside of general notes.

What is key is trying to find their flag. There was a 1st National pattern said to belong to the 44th Mississippi that was captured at Nashville in a previous post on this site, however, that said flag was said to have been given to the regiment in late 1863, perhaps a replacement for their previous flag that was lost on Missionary Ridge in November 1863.

I could use some help in uncovering some details. The reason for this is, I'm hiring several reenactor friends of mine for our next event to pose in accurate attire so I can photograph and send them to an artist to enhance the image and make it a grand scene. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
