I guess it is no worse than seeing a 50-star USA flag in a movie about WW II. But they tout the historic and educational aspects so much you would think they would just stop a second and wonder if their perception of the "Confederate Battle Flag" had any connection with reality.

I was fortunate enough to help with a Christmas Special, filmed in Vancouver BC a number of years ago. It was "Yes Virginia, there Is a Santa Clause." The setting was turn-of-the-century New York City (last century, that is) and they had a dock-yard secene. The producers acutally went to the trouble of finding me, a collector of antique US flags, and they rented a period 45-star ensign for the filming of the ship scenes. Of course, their rental fee was way more than I had paid for that flag, but they returned it safe and sound. Overall quite a nice experience. Now the flag wasn't all that prominent in the show, but the folks told me that the cast watched appreciatively as the antique stars and strips was carefully raised at the stern of the ship.
