Re: Civil War Flags at Auction (Fixed Link)

Hi Greg,
It is difficult to see that from the small pics that they have. How interesting, this would be the first Richmond depot naval ensign I have ever seen or one with the cross trimmed on the ends. I just got off the phone with the Chrysler museum and they had little additional information to offer other than this flag along with 4 others have been stored away since the Chrysler Museum took over the Norfolk Museum in 1971. It seems the other two flags are post-war and have yet come up yetfor auction. The NC Museum of History has a Richmond depot garrison flag (Salisbury prison) that is very similar to this flag. See link. It is the same size with the exact seem lines in the canton and field and the same white trimmed cross on the ends. (Although it is missing a star). The white trim even looks like the same width. I have seen this vary on some Richmond depot 2nd Nationals. Maybe it came from the same lot? Thanks for the info!
