Mark, forgot to mention that Capt. Batson Whitehurst Cox does not appear to have served in any subsequent military capacity.

This regiment was first organized near Benton, Ark., as a battalion on the 15th of July 1861. Dandridge McRae was elected Lt. Col. The battalion marched at once to Wilson’s Creek, Mo., and took an active and prominent part in the battle of “Oak Hills.” Thence marched to Camp Jackson, Ark., and stationed there about the 1st of Sept. 1861, and continued there, drilling until about the middle of Oct. 1861. Was ordered to Mo. Went to Carthage, and by a circuitous route came back to Ark. about the 1st of November. Continued to drill until the latter part of the month. Went into winter quarters at Cross Hollows, Benton County, Ark. Remained there until about the 20th of Feb. 1862. Was ordered to Sugar Creek, Mo. There formed a junction with Genl. Price’s Division. Started immediately in retreat & after various skirmishes arrived at Boston Mountain, Arkansas. Remained there about 2 weeks & on the 3d of March started to attack the Federal forces at Elk Horn, Ark., participated in that bloody fight, sustained heavy loss, returned to Arkansas by way of Fayetteville, Van Buren, &c. Left there on the 24th of March. Moved via of Desarc, Ark., to Memphis, Tenn. From there to Corinth, Miss., on to Rienzi Station. It is impossible to give distance or exact dates, as the records of the regiment have been destroyed by the enemy. Organized as a regiment, Dec. 3, 1861.
