4th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Union) 35 Enlistments
Company A of this unit was the only one raised---this taking place between Jan and May 1864. The men comprising this company were primarily residents of Johnson, Franklin, and Sebastian Counties. A contingent of men was raised at Yellville, Marion, Arkansas and mustered in at Springfield, Missouri, but appear never to have joined the company at any point. The officers were appointed from Kansas units. The unit was posted at Clarksville until 18 May 1864, at which time it was moved to Fort Smith. The company was assigned to the VII Army Corps, District of the Frontier. On 21 Jul 1864, the company/regiment was ordered to Little Rock
By October 1864 it became apparent that other companies would not be raised, and on the 28th of October the unit was ordered to be consolidated with an existing Arkansas Infantry regiment. Due to the large number of Johnson County recruits, Company I, 2nd Arkansas Infantry Regiment was chosen as the consolidated unit and the men were duly transferred to this command in January 1865.
