The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Do any of you know anything about Joel Malone Mc Clintoock???
He came here with the 33rd Illinois and I believe he fought at
Helena. Then he resigned and was promoted to Captain and
was in charge of at least part of the 57th Illinois, of USCT.
Joel McClintock became what was called a wealthy man.
He first was sheriff, later county judge, served in the
Arkansas state legislature, was the postmaster of
DeValls Bluff in about 1901 or 1902, and owned 2500 acres of land.
He was honestly a case of a true carpetbagger, one of those we
learned about in the Arkansas History of our childhoods.
If he had left a house full of kids to sing his praises, we would
know all about him. Since he did not, not much is known.
Hope you guys are doing well. Looks like all of us are sort of fading
away. However, I must add that I am drawing my teacher retirement
and basically enjoying the good life. Hope all of you are the same.
Thanks- Linda
