French Pin Fired revolvers would not be unusual if you consider that the Trans-Mississippi late in the War was get arms from the French colony of Mexico and Maximillian. There is a report in the O.R.'s by federal scouts around the end of April, that one of the plans that was thought of afetr the collapes of the Armies of the eastern Theater was that if Jefferson Davis could reach Texas, reportedly by crossing the Mississippi River at Gaines Landing Arkansas, that the States and Territories of the Trans-Mississippi department would join with Mexico and Maximillian to become again part of France to expand the war to international scale.

This is not too far fetched since Lincoln in 1864 had enlisted none other than the deposed Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna of Alamo infamy to come out of exile in Cuba and attempt to create a revolution in Mexico to overthrow Maximillian to end the flow of supplies to the Confederacy. France and Mexico were "officially" diplomatically neutral but covertly active in their support of the Southern Confederacy.

Santa Anna did actual return to Mexico in 1864 and attempted that revolution but could not gather the support of the Mexican people.
