Thanks for the reply. THe reason I asked was that a few years ago we found a new site there and dug a bunch of .69 cal minnies and round balls, very few .58's whatsoever. Just adjacent to the site were found a number of Cosmopolitan carbine bullets as well as a couple of dozen metal pistol cartridge casings with the "nipple" sticking out, off of the casing. I am aware that during the battle Brooks was sent further to the south to keep an eye out covering the right flank of Fagan's attack on Battery D. Miller's Independant Cavalry Company (later to become Co B Crawford's Ark Cav; also know as Fagan's bodyguard/escort) were sent with Brooks since they could do nothing there to assist with the approach to Battery D. We also surmised that it could have been a camp of Negro troops since so many of the bullets were drops. But we also found some buttons and even an 1851 Officer's belt plate and other odds and ends...martingale hearts. I still tend to lean towards a campsite rather than Brooks' and Miller's postiiton since the Martingale's would have been on the horses and not lying around. But it would be nice if it turned out to be that position taken by Brooks/Miller.
