Re: Hart's Arkansas Battery

Bryan,

So far, all well and good; now what about my contention regarding the identity of the flag obtained from the Missouri Historical Society and now in the collection at the Old State House in Little Rock? What contemporary references are there to Hart's as "Dallas Artillery" prior to the Battle of Pea Ridge and the subsequent after-battle reports of the Union commanders? Is there any wartime description of a Hart's Battery flag, assuming they had one? Do you agree it's unlikely the reconstituted battery also used the name "Dallas artillery" or their flag? Are there any references to the loss of a flag by Van Dorn or any other of Hart's superiors in the charges brought against him for his conduct during the battle? ( Of course, Good admits in the letter to his wife to losing his! )
