Bob, your earlier query sparked a dim recollection in my rapidly aging and fading memory, so I dug out my files on various artillery batteries.
The transfer of men from the 26th Arkansas to Daniel's Texas Battery was made permanent "by order of Gen. Hindman" as of August 12, 1862. This was also the date that transfers of men to other batteries (Hart's, Brown's, etc.) were made permanent. It is also, coincidentally, the date of a reorganization of regiments in Arkansas in which new elections of officers were held, and some companies were shifted around, consolidated, etc. All of which leads me to believe that there was a Special Order from Hindman's headquarters which ordered all this administrative activity. I've never seen the order, but maybe it's in a collection that I haven't heard about.
