Rick, I'm only surmising the information about his enlistment had to come from the soldier himself as told to surgeons at Rock Island as Federal authorities would not have had access to his company records unless of course they had been captured and if they had been I'd rather doubt the surgeons at Rock Island would have had access to them. I am also surmising the surgeons might have ask him about his past medical history and only the soldier could have volunteered this information. Perhaps his fits of diarrhea and measles were not severe enough to warrant a Confederate hospital visit? The lack of dates for measles and diarrhea leave us in limbo. Great observation on your part.
