Mr. Funderburg, I believe your relative in the 12th would have been in Ewell's Second Corps and Rodes' Division until after Spotsylvania where Ewell suffered two emotional/mental breakdowns. After the second one which occurred right in front of General Lee at Harris' Farm R.E. Lee temporarily replaced Ewell with Jubal Early. Lee soon made the move permanent and when Early led the Second Corps away from Cold Harbor and toward the Valley on June 13, 1864, Early was the commanding officer of the Second Corps, which included Rodes' division and Battles' Alabama brigade (with the 12th). Just a minor point.
